February 11, 2007
CHARLESTON, SC – January 26, 2007 – American Media Services (AMS) announced today it has named radio industry veteran Reed Bunzel to serve as president and CEO of AMS-I, a new company that was formed in December to provide broadcasters with expertise in such areas as streaming onto the Internet and creating Internet radio sites that offer high-quality audio. Initially Bunzel will be responsible for assembling a team of Internet and advertising specialists who will work with affiliate stations and radio groups, and will oversee all operations of the new company.
“We searched extensively for someone with the right background, experience, and knowledge of this industry, as well as someone with foresight into the future of radio who would be capable of guiding this new emerging division of American Media Services,” commented AMS President and CEO Edward Seeger. “We all agreed that Reed Bunzel was the right person to build this company and guide the radio business as it transitions to the Internet.”
“AMS-I is an exciting new venture that will allow radio stations to take advantage of ongoing technological advancements and capitalize on changes in the way consumers use media,” Bunzel observed. “Research indicates that radio listenership increasingly is moving to the Internet, and this company will help radio stations take advantage of that ongoing shift. I am thrilled that Ed and the rest of the AMS team have given me the opportunity to build a company that will ensure that radio maintains its position as the primary source of audio content.”
Prior to joining AMS-I Bunzel was president of Bunzel Media Group, where he published Radio Finance Weekly and was author/publisher of the recently released The State Of Radio: 2007. Previously he served as editor-in-chief of Palm Beach-based Radio Ink magazine, and before that he served in a similar editorial capacity for Gavin in San Francisco. During the 1990s Bunzel was vice president of communications at the Radio Advertising Bureau, and worked with the National Association of Broadcasters in both the radio and public affairs departments; he also served in various editorial positions at both Broadcasting and Radio & Records. A published mystery writer and author of several radio industry books, Bunzel earned his B.S. in anthropology at Bowdoin College.
